Abilene is located in West Central Texas, 183 miles west of Dallas. Abilene is home to 112,000 citizens and Dyess AFB, Home of the B-1 Bomber and C-130 transport planes. Abilene is at the hub of the Texas Midwest Network and a diversified economy, which includes manufacturing, retail trade, farming and ranching, medical care, and petroleum.

Near the geographic center of Texas, Abilene is easily accessible by four major highways: Interstate 20 and Highway 84 East and West, and Highway 83 and 277 North and South. Abilene is located approximately 525 miles from the southern border and 450-460 miles from each of the other three borders.

Historical Sites

The Texas and Pacific Railroad Depot located at 1101 N.1^st Street, is one of Abilene's most outstanding landmarks. Built in 1910 it provided passenger service until 1967. In 1994 it was restored to its 1920's appearance to serve as home of Abilene's Convention and Visitor's Bureau, Cultural Affairs Council and Visitor Information Center.
